Abstract

The limited internet infrastructure in rural areas of Lampung is a major obstacle to equalizing access to digital education platforms for rural communities. This study aims to design and develop an adaptive educational application prototype named EduDesa, which is resilient under low-bandwidth connectivity conditions. The method applied in this research is User-Centered Design (UCD) to ensure that all interface elements and navigation flows are developed based on the characteristics, needs, and real constraints of users in the field. To validate the system's resilience under resource-constrained networks, the visual layouts were transformed into a client-side functional prototype built using semantic HTML5 and utility CSS. To measure the system's usability, a quantitative evaluation was conducted using the System Usability Scale (SUS) instrument involving 20 local participants as test subjects. The test results show that the EduDesa prototype successfully achieved an average SUS score of 79.13. This score places the platform in the Good to Excellent acceptability category, indicating that the system is highly feasible and easy to operate by rural communities. Essential features such as offline mode, visual simplification, and optimized page payload size (< 150 KB) efficiently yielded a fast page-load time (< 2.4 seconds under simulated 3G/Edge network environments). Furthermore, the integration of local content in the form of a black pepper cultivation module proved to significantly increase user engagement and interaction efficiency. This study concludes that the UCD approach is effective in generating inclusive technological architectures capable of adapting to telecommunications infrastructure constraints in rural areas.
